Résonance I

In her series Résonance, presented at Art Basel 2019, Daniela Droz uses the notion of shadow as a marker of the passing of time. The many layers of the image are created by projecting light onto a structure, built with windowpanes and mirrors, which is then photographed. Just as her works for La Prairie are mounted on actual mirrors, the works of Daniela Droz mirror the viewer as he is gazing at her images.

Résonance II

Résonance II shines in bright blue and – just as her other works of this series – addresses the relationship between the private space of the viewer, when looking at the work, and the outside space, shared with other people of the space. Both worlds find themselves reunited in the abstract figurations of Daniela’s imagery.

Résonance III

The third work of Daniela Droz shares, with all her other photography’s, a common approach driven by the desire to seek traces of beauty and perfection. In Résonance III the bright and dark areas are structured by the clear lines bringing harmony and equilibrium to the work.

Nanihi I

Namsa Leuba’s work series conceived for La Prairie addresses the notion of time – and this image is no exception. The girl depicted covers her eyes in the hope to escape the passing of time. Her pose is a remembrance of classic paintings from the past, however implemented with contemporary means. The image is framed by graphic and color elements that fortify the evoked emotions in an abstract way.

This work represents the present moment. Time stands still as the viewer is confronted with the direct gaze of the woman.

Lucia

For her series, Senta Simond has shot a series of portraits of close-ups of young women. Her subjects are not professional models but women from her surroundings – authentic, natural, unaffected. The images allow the viewers to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of the subject’s gaze as their eye travels over the portrait like a painting.

In this picture, Lucia’s face, seen from the side, is illuminated by light as she looks beyond the figure of the photographer. She is at once presenting herself to the gaze of the photographer, yet absent and eternally unfathomable.

Laura

In Senta Simond’s works conceived for La Prairie the gaze serves as a structural element and as a tool to express a variety of emotions. This image presents a young woman with a downward stare which manages to avoid direct contact with the viewer, thus maintaining a strong inner presence.

Emma

Emma looks past the camera to the left edge of the frame. As in the other images in this series, her face occupies most of the frame. Again, her gaze eludes the viewer in an act of deception.

Lucia II

The model tilts her head slightly to the side and looks towards the lower left corner of the image. The shadow of her eyes, eyelashes and nose structure the work with a graphic dynamic. The presentation of self to the photographer is accompanied by a total negation of the viewer. The young women in Senta Simonds’s work – whereas always thoroughly contemporary - are positioned in romantic postures reminiscent of highly stylized portraits from the Hollywood film area of the past century. Contrary to the Hollywood divas, they always remain in power.

Lisa

Lisa seems startled by the camera. Her eyes wide open, lips apart, she faces the viewer in a gesture of total openness. There is an immediate and raw connection between the model and the viewer that dominates this image and reveals a mixture of vulnerability and strength.
